Boats are moored at Sandford Mill Lock, Paper Mill Lock, Hoe Mill Lock and Heybridge Basin. These locks and Springfield Basin (Chelmsford) are accessible by car. It is possible to walk the entire length of the canal (tow path) between Chelmsford and Heybridge Basin (14 miles). There are pubs / shops at Springfield Basin Chelmsford and Heybridge Basin, refreshments are sometimes available at Paper Mill Lock (weekends).
