Isabella - Fit Out

The Fit out started on 19th December 1999. Starting with the centre of the roof / ceiling, using pine tongue and grooved cladding purchased from B&.Q.

These photos show the foam insulation, and the battens, which the cladding is secured to. Three different types of cladding were used, one for the roof, one for the top sides, and a 'heritage' type for the bottom.

Wiring to roof light fittings was installed before the roof cladding was completed,

Pine Tongue & Grooved Cladding (Wicks) was then nailed / screwed to the battens. Wiring in plastic conduit runs along join between roof and sides.

Partitions were constructed from MDF (B&Q). They do not have to fit exactly to the side walls as cladding covers the gaps.

Cladding  was then nailed / screwed to the MDF boards. Further horizontal cladding installed above, vertical cladding below.

Bedroom Cupboards.

A pair of these cupboards are installed above each end of the bed.  MDF is used to line all the bottom sides, as shown in this photo, then pine cladded - this made the cladding easier to fit.

Kitchen Carcasses being installed. MFI Kitchen  units / cupboards are used throughout, although most of the carcasses were thrown away and doors & fitting used only. We found this to be the most economical and time saving way.

We used MDF for work tops (later tiled). This photo shows hob and sink cut outs (MFI carcasses are used on the left, own build on the right.

This shows my carcass construction. The MFI doors are fitted later.

Note, the only power available throughout fit out was the Black and Decker Quattro battery drill set (shown in photo) - fantastic.

May 2000 and the kitchen is partially functional (we can make a cup of tea!!)

The same units as shown in above and left photos, but now nearly completed.

The TV unit takes shape, with step / water pump housing and sofa / convertible bed on the right.

All cladding and pine wood is Danish oiled only (no varnish) highly recommended, easy to apply, looks & lasts well

The end result, around 9 months after start.
